“In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, He made known to us the mystery of his will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ” – Ephesians 1:7-9
Searching for Loose Change
I looked nervously at the total that popped up on the cash register. My budget was tight. I had a list, but picked up a few extra goodies that caught my eye. Now, at the checkout, I was tense. I took the bills from my billfold. I needed more money. I keep an “emergency stash” of $5-$10 in a hidden compartment in my purse, so no worries. This day, my emergency stash was gone. I must have forgotten to replace it the last time I used it.
Still confident I had enough money I began to dig in the bottom of my purse I can usually dig up a couple of dollars from the deep recesses of my bag. After a few minutes and a couple of apologies to the people in line behind me, I was square with the cashier and on my way.
Scrounging for the last few cents is never fun
Rest assured God has enough. Read Paul’s entire opening comments to this group of new believers in Ephesians 1:4-5
How does it make you feel to know God planned to love you before time began? God’s love for you existed before creation. How can you earn a love like that? You can’t. All you have to do is accept it. Cherish it! Bask in it! Praise Him for it!
God Never Runs Out of Blessings
Once God settled on us as the focus of his love, He made out His “shopping list” of the blessings. He took great delight in planning a rich store of blessings. God knew it would not be cheap. He made sure He had more than enough to cover the cost of loving you and me.
On the cross, Jesus paid the cost of God’s love for you!
God wasn’t standing at the checkout digging for extra change. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, sin’s punishment need not hang over your head. God paid the price to set you free. When God paid the debt, He paid it fully. He did not use His last cent. He still has an abundance of blessings He wants to lavish on you.
Do you feel like God is distant? Maybe you feel like His plan got away from Him and He’s floundering, trying to catch up and give you the meager left-overs from His once great plan? That is not the case. Paul gives you hope in verse 11
“In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will” – Ephesians 1:11
