The Chosen Ones
“For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. Yahweh your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth. Yahweh didn’t set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples: but because Yahweh loves you, and because he desires to keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, Yahweh has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” Deuteronomy 7:6-8
The Israelites were God’s chosen people; He loved them and they belonged to Him like a treasured possession. Furthermore, when we follow God, we also become one of His people, one of His children, and He loves us as a treasured possession with a love of unconditional and unfathomable proportions.
Value Beyond the Surface
With this in mind, we shouldn’t let what other people say make us feel bad about ourselves or do the same to others.
“My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality. For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, or, meeting and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in; and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say, “Sit here in a good place”; and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”; haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?” James 2:1-5
Neither should we depreciate ourselves.
“Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father’s will, but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31
“Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Although, we should not be proud of ourselves and conceited.
“Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to Yahweh:” Proverbs 16:5
However, we should be confident and rest assured in the love and strength of our God.
Dear Lord, when we feel unloved and alone,
Remind us whose we are;
When we feel the sting of sticks and stones,
Uphold us in Your loving arms.
“Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10
