“In past times human beings were not told this secret, but God has revealed it now by the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets. 6 The secret is that by means of the gospel the Gentiles have a part with the Jews in God’s blessings; they are members of the same body and share in the promise that God made through Christ Jesus.” -Ephesians 3:5-6 (GNT)
Do You Want to Hear a Secret?
Are there more exciting, attention-getting words? That sentence is so interesting, that, if the people sitting next to you hear it, they will listen. The question will hush a room. The question will cause people to pay money. Everyone wants to know a secret, secrets are mysterious. Knowing a secret is exclusive—if everyone knows it, it’s not a secret.
The Secret Revealed: It’s All About Jesus
Paul lets us in on a secret. The secret was Jesus.
Jesus was God’s big secret. Jesus is the secret weapon God uses; to bring the dead soul back to life, to redeem the life lost in sin, to seat the believer in heavenly places, to reconcile the Jew and non-Jew, to hold the believer as an inheritance, and to mold the believer into a masterpiece of good works.
Another attention-getting word is “FREE.” I can set dilapidated furniture on the curb with a sign that says “FREE” and it’s not long before the item is gone.
In the case of God’s FREE gift; Jesus is invaluable. If you are not awestruck by God’s generous gift, perhaps you don’t fully understand what you’ve been given or why it’s important.
Jesus is the message of the Church, of every individual believer. Paul prays his own understanding would increase. Paul prays that our understanding would increase.
Don’t Keep Jesus a Secret
All of Paul’s glorious, lavish words are the secret. God wants YOU to fully know His Son—to know His Son, personally. God wants you to understand the magnitude of your need for such a gift of immeasurable value. God wants you to catch a glimpse of His unfathomable love.
Once you know the secret, you have to promise to tell it!
Father, thank You for letting me in on the secret. Help me to understand Christ’s work on my behalf and Your love for me! When I think of Your love, I understand why Paul felt so small. Help me to tell this secret to EVERYONE!
