“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3-4
Society’s View of Beauty
Image is one of the most important aspects of our society today. The problem is we seem to focus on image more than we focus on God. People would rather read tabloid magazines to see what the latest fashion celebrities are wearing instead of reading the bible. I feel I am guilty of this sometimes also. It causes us to feel we are not beautiful enough because we do not look like Kim Kardashian or Brad Pitt.
Beauty is Inside, Not Out
God sees beauty in every one of us. He sees the most important type of beauty, our inner beauty. It is not about how we look on the outside, but if we are God fearing people.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30.
Bodies age, but if we fear the Lord, and know who he is, our souls will forever be with him even after death.
I am not saying we should not look nice, but we must know the most important part of us is not our looks it is our inner beauty. So our focus needs to be on trying to make our inner beauty more beautiful and focus less on outer beauty. It is not a bad thing to get the haircut that is in style, or to wear the latest fashion trends. We can do these things and still keep God first, as long as you put your heart before your looks.
